Gold Coast Florist Tips On Orchid Care: Part 2
In the second part of the Orchid care series, you will learn more about the nutrients needed, the temperature that an Orchid flourishes at, and proper hygiene. Gold Coast Florists are here to help you enjoy your gorgeous Orchids at any time of the year. Botanique wants to make Orchid care easy on you. If you follow these steps your Orchids are sure to flourish.
Unlike other flower species that can survive and flourish without additional nutrients, Orchids need regular nutrient supplementation. The Orchid-specific fertilizer should be added to the water. According to the American Orchid Society “Experienced Orchid growers fertilize their Orchids weakly, weekly.” Never fertilize an Orchid if the soil is dry! Orchids are unique in the fact that they can absorb nutrients through their roots and their leaves. This means that you should also incorporate regular nutrient-rich sprays. It seems to be a general consensus among experts that fertilizer should be a 20:20:20 solution (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium.)
Since there are thousands of species of Orchids, each different variety will thrive at different temperatures. Typically Orchids are native to tropical climates. You need to know exactly what family of Orchid your plant is associated with in order to keep them at the right temperature. An indoor environment is usually the best for these plants as they do not stand up to frost, extreme heat, or major temperature fluctuations. They are best kept between 10°c and 28°c, do not exceed 30°c.
In our next article we will discuss hygiene and transplanting your Orchid. If you have more questions about temperature or nutrients the experts at Botanique, a Gold Coast Florist, will be happy to assist you. They want you to love your Orchids as much as they do!
