Native Gold Coast Flowers: Banksia
There are several species of flower that are common throughout the world. Most people know exactly what a rose looks like. Cultivation practices, technology, and increased travel have made it easy to grow and sell non-native flower species. Understanding horticultural practices can make growing non-native flower species a hobby. Native Gold Coast flowers can be just as beautiful as any non-native species and are much less common.
The genus Banksia is exclusive to Australia. According to the Australian National Herbarium, there are 173 different species of Banksia. The unique beauty and shape of these flowers is hard to miss. The Banksia genus is unique in the fact that they can grow as small as a shrub or as large as 20-30 metres tall. Even with the the uniquely beautiful buds the Banksia genus has a limited use as a cut flower within bouquets.
The genus Banksia can be found all along the coast of Australia. Although there are few to no species of Banksia that can survive the harsh and arid regions. The gorgeous Banksia flowers can range from yellow to red. When they are in full bloom, the flower buds are made up of hundreds of tiny, tightly packed flowers. Typically these flowers bloom throughout the autumn and winter months. When these flowers are not in bloom they resemble a cone. Although these native flowers do not achieve mainstream popularity within certain regions of Australia there are still a few Banksia plants that are facing extinction.
If you are interested in a bouquet of flowers for your loved ones, think about adding native, non-threatened Gold Coast flowers of the Banksia genus. These unique and beautiful bouquets can be found at Botanique Flowers & Gifts.
